melted crayonWe’ve all been there.   Well, most of us have, especially if we have kids.  We see it all the time, on the back seat, on the carpet, a crayon totally melted in the upholstery.  There is no very “easy” way to remove the melted crayon stain.  In fact, if it is a stain, then it might be permanent.   Hopefully the stain hasn’t been there so long that it has changed the colors of the carpet fiber.  Here is what we do to remove the melted crayons.

We use a few tools, a heated carpet extractor, a vapor steamer, and a small knife or even a flat tip screwdriver.  First, we will use the knife or flat tip screwdriver.  Gently and carefully scrape away as much of the melted crayon as you can.  Use a Shop Vac or a regular vacuum to suck away any loose crayon that might be present.  With whatever melted crayon might still be in the carpet or upholstery, we then use a clean microfiber towel and cover the affected area.  We grab our vapor steamer and lightly steam the towel over top of the melted crayon stain.  This usually lifts the crayon stain into the microfiber towel.  If there is still a melted crayon stain, we will then use a very small amount of Goof Off and lightly blot the area.  Being careful not to spread the stain, we will then use our heated carpet extractor to push hot water below the surface of the melted crayon, lifting it to the surface and extracting it into the machine.  99 percent of the time, this method does the trick.  We have had very good luck with this process.

There is really no right, wrong, or perfect way to remove a melted crayon stain, but we wanted to share with you our methods.  The hard part is not making the stain bigger when we use the steamer or blot the area with Goof Off.  It takes time and patience.  After the stain is out of the car upholstery or carpet, make sure that there are no more crayons in the car that the kids leave behind.  (Good luck with that one!)
