While detailing a Volkswagen RR in Columbus Ohio we came across a set of wheels that had a ton of brake dust on them that the owner said he tried for “years” to remove but with no luck. As one can tell from the photo above, it appears the owner gave up after the first “year.” Car washes do not do a very good job with removing embedded brake dust, which is one of the reasons the owner decided to call Auto Detail Doctor.
We use a couple different cleaners for wheels. This particular set of wheels called for our mild wheel cleaner, called Meguiars Non Acid Wheel and Tire Cleaner D143. Meguiars made this particular cleaner a non acid formula that will not harm wheels at all. It’s considered a mild wheel cleaner due to the lack of acid, but the cleaner power is amazing! First we spray the dirty wheel with the cleaner, let it sit for a minute, then use our power washer and spray the wheel off. Once it’s clean we dry the wheel with a microfiber towel, then grab some quick instant detailer spray, and wipe the wheel down to remove any excess brake dust that might be visible. It’s that simple! Using this method can be done while spending about a total of two minutes per wheel. This product is THAT good.
What an amazing difference. It literally transforms the car. Many times customers cannot believe how quick, yet effectively, we can clean their wheels. Meguiars has definitely made things easier for car detailers. Take a look at the before and after photos!
